PARALLELS // EXTENDED TAPE LOOP SOUND INSTALLATION

Parallels explores long form tape looping and delayed playback within a physical space. By modifying both the cassette and tape players, I am able to physically break the tape outside of its original case in order to create longer, more exposed, and fragile loops. The tape loop has been pre-recorded with music I composed and is played back endlessly between two cassette players panned left and right (in their own dedicated channels). Within the physical space, one will hear the delay playback from the left and right channels as the magnetic tape physically loops from one play head to another - bouncing endlessly within the stereo field. By arranging the tape players in this setup, one can not only hear the parallel tape delay in stereo, but actually see parallels between the tape players and physical tape loop itself.
